Functors Extending the Kauffman Backet
In this article we extend evaluations of the Kauffman bracket on regular isotopy classes of knots and links to a variety of functors defined on the category FrT ang of framed tangles. We show that many such functors exist, and that they correspond up to equivalence to bilinear forms on free, finitely-generated modules over commutative rings R.
متن کاملBousfield localization functors and Hopkins’ zeta conjecture
This paper arose from attempting to understand Bousfield localization functors in stable homotopy theory. All spectra will be p-local for a prime p throughout this paper. Recall that if E is a spectrum, a spectrum X is Eacyclic if E∧X is null. A spectrum is E-local if every map from an E-acyclic spectrum to it is null. A map X → Y is an E-equivalence if it induces an isomorphism on E∗, or equiv...
متن کاملTate Cohomology and Periodic Localization of Polynomial Functors
In this paper, we show that Goodwillie calculus, as applied to functors from stable homotopy to itself, interacts in striking ways with chromatic aspects of the stable category. Localized at a fixed prime p, let T (n) be the telescope of a vn self map of a finite S–module of type n. The Periodicity Theorem of Hopkins and Smith implies that the Bousfield localization functor associated to T (n)∗...

متن کاملQuantum Computation and the Localization of Modular Functors
The mathematical problem of localizing modular functors to neighborhoods of points is shown to be closely related to the physical problem of engineering a local Hamiltonian for a computationally universal quantum medium. For genus = 0 surfaces, such a local Hamiltonian is mathematically defined. Braiding defects of this medium implements a representation associated to the Jones polynomial and t...
